Youth of Old Donation

SUNDAY SCHOOL FOR YOUTH

(We all gather for song in Tucker Hall at 9:15. Class is from 9:30-10:15.)

Old Donation's youth ministry programs offer spiritual formation to young people in grades 6-12.  The Journey to Adulthood, our basic curriculum, provides a liturgical frame for their experience in modern culture, celebrates individuality and creative potential, and provides instruction in skills needed for successful adult participation in church and society.  Each program is a two-year commitment.

Rite-13

Rite-13 (grades 6-8) assists young persons as they take the first steps of passage from their families and into their own lives and provides a safe haven in which to explore new ideas, new interests and new abilities.  Based on the bar/bat mitzvah, the gift of womanhood and manhood is celebrated with a special liturgy and a reception in the year the participants turn 13.  In their final year, the group goes on a mini-pilgrimage to Nightwatch at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York.

(Karl, Jim and Matt provide music for our annual Oyster Roast.)

J2A

J2A (grades 8-10) blends action and contemplation in teaching the art of faithful living and helps students understand and affirm Christian living.  To prepare for adulthood they learn the skills of active listening, negotiation, assertion, information management, partnership and leadership.  This class is given the opportunity for Confirmation and, at the end of a two-year period, the participants are recognized as young adults in the church and invited to make a holy pilgrimage.  The current group just returned from Scotland and London.

YAC

YAC (Young Adults in the Church) (grades 10-12) are tackling many social issues guided by their Christian values. Having returned from their pilgrimage, they are now called to take charge of their own program as new leaders in this church community.  The class focuses on discerning gifts for ministry and the ability to articulate a personal credo.  The youth at this stage plan a mission trip and service program together as part of their commitment to Christian ministry.

Episcopal Youth Community

Other youth activities are offered weekly which foster faith, community and fun, such as movie nights, bowling, visits to the Mission of the Holy Spirit in Norfolk, community service and outreach, discussions of social issues, fellowship dinners, religious celebrations, like a Passover meal, laser tag, canoeing, video game competitions, karaoke night and more!

EYC is open to anyone and everyone in grades 6-12.

We meet every Sunday evening during the school year.
